Jim Miller Expands Role into Marketing
CHARLOTTE, NC – Jan. 20, 2026 – Compass Precision continues to celebrate the new year with a change in its managerial team.
Compass Precision, LLC, a Charlotte-based manufacturer of customer, close-tolerance metal components for mission-critical applications, announced Tuesday it has promoted Jim Miller to VP of Sales & Marketing.
Jim has served as Compass VP of Sales for almost five years.
“I’m really excited about what the future holds for Compass, all the great things we’ve done,” Jim said on his promotion. “We’ve more than doubled in size via organic growth and through acquisitions. We’ve probably quadrupled in revenue. The sky is the limit with Compass.
“The future is exciting here not only with our current operating companies, their growth and the anticipation of additional acquisitions, but also what we’re planning to bring to the table to be able to support our existing customers and future customers as well.”
As part of his new role, Jim will lead the Compass sales and marketing departments, which will expand in 2026. Compass plans to hire a national sales manager and communications director, both of whom will report to Jim.
Both departments will be responsible for helping grow the Compass brand, which currently includes 10 operating companies in six different states.
“We will continue to work closely with all of our operating companies and their inside sales groups as well as general managers as it relates to our overall sales and marketing efforts,” Jim said of his team. “But now, Compass will be fully integrated to support our sales and marketing expansion.”
Jim joined Compass about a year and a half after Main Street Capital Holdings founded the company with the acquisition of three sister companies in North Carolina – Advanced Machining & Tooling, Quality Products & Machine and Tri-Tec Industries. Compass also had its first add-on operating company with Gray Manufacturing when Jim came onboard.
Since Jim started, Compass has expanded operations into two new time zones – Central in Minnesota and Pacific in Oregon. The company has also acquired two machine shops in Massachusetts, one in Florida and finally, one in Michigan.
Together, the operating companies collaborated for a record-setting 2025. Jim said it’s taken some time for the sister companies to begin fully working together. But with everyone completely on board, Compass can better satisfy any customer need in multiple industries and manufacturing disciplines.
“I think our business model is extremely unique. That’s why it’s so important that our new marketing team gets to work,” Jim said. “We want to let our target industries know who we are, what we do, our uniqueness, and how we can support them differently than most job shops.”
Jim began his expanded role on January 1. His start date coincided with Compass naming Bill Canning its new CEO. Bill replaced Compass’ first CEO Gary Holcomb, who is now chairman.
“I enjoy working with Jim,” stated Bill. “He is a rare individual with strong understanding of custom products manufacturing combined with outstanding sales and marketing skills.”
“Jim has spearheaded our efforts to grow Compass through new business development,” added Gary. “He is the perfect guy for this larger role.”
In the early days of the parent company, Gary fulfilled most of Compass’s marketing needs. Jim will assume those duties, which have greatly expanded through organic growth and acquisitions since 2019.
All Compass operating companies serve a diversified group of blue-chip customers in the aerospace & defense, space, semiconductor, medical, industrial automation, power generation, telecommunications, high tech, and specialty industrial markets.
In addition to expansion via acquisition, Compass has also grown significantly since its formation in 2019 by investing aggressively in advanced equipment and adding new customers drawn to the company’s mantra of “we do the tough stuff”.
In particular, Compass has concentrated its CAPEX expansion on machines capable of running unattended, lights-out, and/or in multi-tasking mode whereby previous discrete CNC machine processes are combined into a single operation.
